Purposes of This Page
This page has three main purposes.
- To provide information about the three major vehicles that the Information Age Education organization is using to communicate to its current and potential readers.
- To advertise a new book written by David Moursund and Robert Albrecht. A PDF of this book can be purchased for $10.
- To discuss the creation of a David Moursund Legacy Fund through the Department of Mathematics, University of Oregon. The collected money is helping to fund a Science of Teaching and Learning Mathematics endowment fund in the Mathematics Department at the University of Oregon.
A New (for Sale) Book by Moursund and Albrecht
The Information Age Education organization provides access to a lot of free materials designed to help improve education. Over the past 10 years I (Dave Moursund) have written a number of books and made them available [http://iae-pedia.org/David_Moursund_Books free on the Web.
Currently I am involved in other writing activities in which the product are not being distributed for free:
1. The following co-authored book is being sold by the Math Learning Center and is also available for the Kindle.
- Moursund, Dave and Albrecht, Bob (2011). Using math games and word problems to increase the math maturity of K-8 students. Salem, OR: The Math Learning Center. See http://iae-pedia.org/Moursund_and_Albrecht:_Math_games_and_word_problems for information about ordering a PDF version of the book from the Math Learning Center for $10, or a Kindle version of the book for $4.95 from Amazon.com.
- This 222 page book was created for preservice and inservice teachers with the goal of improving the informal and formal math education of preK-8 students. The authors emphasize using simple, inexpensive games to provide students with learning environments that help to increase their levels of math maturity.
- The book is a mixture of theory and practice. It contains a careful analysis of a small number of games and links to a large number of games and related resources. Click here for a more detailed description and for access to some of the content.
2. Bob Albrecht and I are currently writing a book about Math Tutoring.
3. I am in the process of revising and updating some of my books that are currently available free. The older editions will continue to be available fee. The newer editions will be made available in Kindle format and priced at $2.99.
David Moursund Legacy Fund
I have created an endowment fund in the Department of Mathematics, University of Oregon. The fund is in honor of my parents and their four children (Robert, David, Anne, Peter). Both my father and mother taught in this department, and my father was head of the department for many years. I received my undergraduate degree from this department and later was on the faculty. All of the Andrew F. and Lulu V. Moursund children graduated from the University of Oregon.
Over the years I have developed many documents and made them available free on the Web. In recent years, I have provided the funding for the Information Age Education, and I plan to continue to do this in the future.
If you would like to show your appreciation for my work and for my support of Information Age Education, you can make a donation to the Science of Teaching and Learning Math endowment fund at the University of Oregon.
This can be done online through the secure site of the University of Oregon Foundation. The Web address is https://supportuo.uofoundation.org/. There you will see:

This is the first part of the form that you will need to fill out. In this part of the form, you will use the "Other (please specify)" space. Enter the endowment fund title:
Science of Teaching and Learning Math
Also, enter an amount of $10 or more. ($10 in the minimum donation that this system will accept.)
The rest of the form seems to me to be straight-forward. Each place that is indicted by Bold Face needs to have an entry. Success in filling out the form correctly should bring you an email response as well as a "warm glow in your heart."
The following book published in April 2011 is available in PDF format free on the Web and can also be purchased in Kindle format for $2.99.
- Moursund, David Expanding the Science and Technology Learning Experiences of Children. Eugene, OR: Information Age Education. Free download of PDF available at http://iae-pedia.org/David_Moursund_Legacy_Fund and can also be purchased in Kindle format for $2.99. The content of the two versions is the same.
People who download the free version of the 142 page book are encouraged to make a 501(C)(3) donation to an Endowment Fund that David Moursund has established at the University of Oregon. The fund is named: Science of Teaching and Learning Math, and its purpose is to help improve the teaching and learning of math at both the precollege and higher education levels.
